About Elisa, Our Italian Doll Artist

My name is Elisa Gallea, I’m 27. I have a great love for several arts. Since I was a child, I have liked drawing and painting, using some techniques such as water-colors, pastels and crayons. I love writing novels and poems too, so I have participated in several national competitions attaining good results.

In March 2004, I took a degree in Media and Communication Studies, with a work about dolls…I simulated an advertising campaign for a famous Italian doll factory "Le Bambole di Arianna" in Taormina.

I’m a doll collector as well: I love both vintage and modern dolls, made of different materials such as porcelain, cloth or vinyl…

I have been making OOAK polymer clays dolls since about 3 years...I especially show and sell them in USA through great doll galleries...In May 2006 my dream came true opening a little doll factory in my city, Palermo. Here I make porcelain dolls made from factory molds...however I hope to have my own porcelain collection soon!!!

I think dolls have a soul…they have a breath of life given by their maker…you can see life lived during the time in their eyes…My love has became a real passion, so I like both collecting and making dolls, giving them a "drop of life". I started about 6 years ago, creating simple and tender cloth dolls, with childish hand-embroidered faces. About three years ago I started making cernit dolls entirely sculpted without moulds…so, each doll is different from the others, she’s an OOAK (One-of-A-Kind)! When I finish to create a doll, I’m so happy! She’s entirely made by myself!!! It’s really hard to give the doll the expression and the shape I want...especially because I’m a self-taught artist! I had never attended sculpt classes, my teachers are only some Dollmaking books... Making eyes, nose, mouth is not the really problem, but giving them the right proportion, harmony and the "drop of life" is very difficult! I know I have to learn more and more!
I started making baby dolls, with childish features....Now, I especially create older girl dolls about 7-8 years old. I try to capture a special moment: a ballerina that waits for going to the stage or a girl happy for her new little bag! I use only high quality materials: human or mohair hair, glass eyes, handmade dress and leather "Made in Italy" shoes. ..

My dolls have to communicate love and serenity, this is my main purpose!
